Plays soothing background audio to mask distractions, support concentration and reduce sensory overload.
What does this setting do?
Background sounds such as rain, ocean waves, white noise or deep tones can help mask distracting environmental sounds. For people with ADHD, tinnitus, stress sensitivity or anxiety, constant, steady sounds often have a calming effect and improve the ability to concentrate. The feature is built into iOS and macOS. On Android and Windows, third-party apps are required.

Often mentioned in relation to the following conditions:
ADHD
– Attention-deficit / hyperactivity-related difficulties such as distractibility, impulsivity, or sensitivity to visual motion.
Autism (mild)
– Mild autism-spectrum traits with sensory sensitivities to light, sound, motion or complex interfaces.
Anxiety Disorder
– Heightened sensitivity to sudden changes, alerts, flashing content or notifications.
Tinnitus
– Sensitivity to audio notifications or constant noise leading to concentration difficulty.
Chronic Fatigue
– Persistent physical and mental exhaustion with limited energy availability. Attention, processing speed, and resilience are often reduced over extended periods.
High Sensitivity (HSP)
– Increased sensory sensitivity to light, sound, colors, or emotional stimuli.
Sudden or loud system sounds can be uncomfortable or overwhelming. Lowering volume, reducing alert sounds, or enabling vibration-only modes can help reduce stress.
