Open Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary. Enable the feature. Set: – delivery times – which apps are included – whether time-sensitive notifications break through iOS provides the most advanced summary control.
Notification Summaries / Reduced Alerts
Groups notifications or delivers them at scheduled times to reduce distraction.
What does this setting do?
Notification summaries limit interruptions by bundling or delaying alerts. iOS provides the most complete implementation with “Scheduled Summary”. macOS offers a simpler summary feature, while Android and Windows rely on reduced alert styles, prioritization or manufacturer-specific solutions. This is helpful for users who become overwhelmed by frequent notifications or need sustained focus.
Instructions for different systems
In the Google standard version of Android, there is no system-wide feature that bundles or summarizes notifications (no notification digest).
You can still reduce and organize notifications by adjusting them per app: Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications and choose which notification types are allowed for each app, such as important, silent, or blocked.
Note: Some manufacturers, such as Samsung, offer additional notification summary features. These are not part of the Google standard version of Android and vary by device.
Windows does not include a true notification summary. You can reduce alerts via Settings > System > Notifications.
Open Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary. Turn on Scheduled Summary. Choose the times when the summary is shown, which apps are included, and whether time-sensitive notifications are delivered immediately.
Note: Time-sensitive notifications can bypass the scheduled summary and appear right away.
Often mentioned in relation to the following conditions:
- ADHD – Attention-deficit / hyperactivity-related difficulties such as distractibility, impulsivity, or sensitivity to visual motion.
- ADD – Attention-deficit difficulties without hyperactivity, often involving reduced focus and slower processing.
- Anxiety Disorder – Heightened sensitivity to sudden changes, alerts, flashing content or notifications.
- Social Anxiety – Sensitivity to social cues or overwhelming information, benefiting from calmer UI patterns.
- Autism (mild) – Mild autism-spectrum traits with sensory sensitivities to light, sound, motion or complex interfaces.
- Chronic Fatigue – Persistent physical and mental exhaustion with limited energy availability. Attention, processing speed, and resilience are often reduced over extended periods.
Commonly used for the following difficulties:
Cognitive Overload
Complex or information-heavy interfaces can be overwhelming. Simplified layouts, reduced distractions and focus modes help manage cognitive load.
Notification Overload
Frequent notifications can disrupt focus and lead to stress. Limiting alerts or enabling focus modes helps maintain control and calm.
Difficulty Maintaining Focus
Distractions from movement, colors or notifications can interrupt focus. Reducing visual noise and limiting alerts supports sustained attention.
Overwhelm from Social or Interactive Elements
Social feeds, chat bubbles or interactive prompts can feel overwhelming. Minimal modes and reduced social notifications support emotional balance.

Relation to WCAG guidelines
For setting to be effective, a website or app often must be technically implemented in such a way that it respects operating system and browser settings.
Developers and designers should follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The following WCAG criteria are particularly relevant for this setting:
